Our client, a leading buy-side investment firm, is embarking on a greenfield data engineering initiative to build a best-in-class data platform that underpins investment decision-making. They are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineering Lead to drive the architecture, development, and scaling of this platform. This role begins as an individual contributor with full ownership of the build-out, with the mandate to grow and lead a team as the function expands.
Key Responsibilities
Take full ownership of a greenfield data platform, from architecture design to implementation.
Build scalable, secure, and cloud-native data pipelines and infrastructure to support investment and trading strategies.
Partner with portfolio managers, quants, and data scientists to capture requirements and deliver high-value data solutions.
Design and implement modern ETL/ELT workflows for diverse datasets (structured, semi-structured, and unstructured).
Define best practices for data engineering, including CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and governance.
Evaluate and adopt cutting-edge technologies to ensure the platform’s scalability and resilience.
Mentor and lead a team of data engineers as the platform matures.
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
8+ years of experience in data engineering, with proven experience leading or architecting large-scale data solutions.
Strong programming expertise in Python (e.g., Pandas, PySpark) for production-grade pipelines.
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and related data services (e.g., S3, Redshift, BigQuery, Databricks, EMR).
Strong SQL skills and familiarity with both relational and NoSQL databases.
Experience with distributed systems and streaming technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka).
Familiarity with DevOps and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to partner with front-office teams.
